Golden Honey Pan Rolls

These are wonderful dinner rolls with a sweet finish. They are a frequent request for our holiday meals.

Ingredients

Rolls

  • 1 cup Warm Milk
  • 1 Large Egg, room temp.
  • 1 Large Egg Yolk, room temp.
  • 1/2 cup Canola Oil
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 1/2 cup Bread Flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast

Glaze

  • 1/3 cup Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 Large Egg White, room temp.
  • Optional: Additional Honey

Instructions

Bread

  1. In a mixer bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk
  2. In another bowl, combine egg, egg yolk, oil, honey.
  3. In a 3rd bowl, combine flour and salt.
  4. Once yeast is active and foaming, mix in wet ingredients on medium speed
  5. Spoon in the dry ingredients and mix until flour is combined. (dough will be sticky)
  6. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, or use a dough hook in a mixer, 6-8 minutes.
  7. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  8. Punch down dough; cover and let rest 10 minutes.
  9. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Divide and shape into 24 balls
  10. Place 12 each in 2 greased 8×8-in. baking pans. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat oven to 350°. Continue to make the glaze while the oven is heating.

Glaze

  1. Combine the sugar, butter, honey and egg white; drizzle over dough.

Baking

  1. Bake at 350° until golden brown, 20-25 minutes.
  2. Brush with additional honey after removing from the oven.

Notes

  • I like to work through step 10 the day before baking and refrigerate over night. Just be sure to leave additional time for them to warm up and then do the second rise.
