Buttercream Frosting

This recipe makes an ideal buttercream for frosting cakes and decorating them with borders.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup shortening
  • 8 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp clear imitation vanilla extract
  • 6 oz heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening until fluffy.
  2. Add confectioners’ sugar and continue creaming until well blended
  3. Add salt, vanilla, and whipping cream. Blend on low speed until moistened. Add additional cream if necessary (up to 2 oz.).
  4. Beat at high speed until frosting is fluffy.
