Smoked Turkey Brine
If you plan to smoke a turkey, you need a brings that compliments the smoke flavor. Try this brine that has a full flavor.
Ingredients
- 2.5 gal Water
- 2 cups Kosher Salt (don’t use table salt)
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
- 3 tsp Minced Garlic
- 1 tbsp Ground Black Pepper
Instructions
- Using just 1 gallon of water, place it in a large cooking pot on the stove and heat on high.
- Add in all of the ingredients and bring to a boil for about 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool. (Make sure the brine is completely cool before placing a turkey in it.)
- Place the turkey in a large food safe container and add cooled brine liquid. Add additional cool water to top it off. The bird should be completely submerged.
- Let brine for 24 hours, then remove the bird and rinse thoroughly. Discard of the remaining brine.
Notes
- Make sure you let the brine completely cool before pouring it over your meat. Hot liquid will start the cooking process. As it cools from there, it is ripe for bacteria.
- I like to mix my brine a day ahead of time. It doesn't need to be refrigerated and doing this a day ahead ensures everything is cool.
